Meandering

¶ 16 August 06

It seems to me that a lot of people believe that, second only to Italy, France is one of those countries that gets by largely by winging it. They penned a great slogan and called it a day. While there is some truth to that, to be frank, winging it is clearly a leitmotif in most all countries run by people.

And I don’t suppose it will ever be any other way (what with people being what they are) – but continue to wonder about the truth of there no longer being any great political ideologies at work: that our choice at the polls has been reduced to selecting the bureaucratic management team with the most cynical ... Machiavellian uh… effective marketing department. Whether our recent history has not, in fact, been one of a systematic crushing of social ideologies (it’s all about the bananas), and how long it will take me to cave in to the evidence that morality is an artificial construct.

Then again, we had a truly sensational thunderstorm last night, and some terrific pasta for lunch. So who am I to complain?
